The Royal Palace of Caserta – Excursions to Caserta:
The Royal palace of Caserta is the world’s largest royal residence, also called the “Versailles of Italy”, together with the actual viewpoint of St.Leucio and the aqueduct of Carolino, the palace was inserted in 1997 in the UNESCO heritage of humanity. The realization of the palace was built bu King Charles of Bourbon and was lived in for a short time by Murat.
King Charles of Bourbon decided to build the palace inland at Caserta, since he deemed it a more secure location than that of the capital of Naples, that was very vulnerable to attacks at that historical period.
The construction of the palace of Caserta was started on 20 January 1752 and was completed in 1845. The Royal Palace’s grounds extends 3 kilometres, it has two stupendous main gardens: the Italian garden and the English garden, that are connected by two long parallel avenues.
